Leopoldmuseum Wien

Moriz Nähr. Photography and Vienna Modernism (August 24 – October 29, 2018)

Moriz Nähr (1859-1945) is considered to be one of the most important innovators of phtotgraphy in Vienna around 1900. Nähr formed a life-long artistic friendship with Klimt. Numerous portrait shots of Klimt document this. In reserve, Klimt also took inspirations from the motifs of Nähr. The show presents the different working styles of Nähr: landscape, architecture and portrait photography, “Street Photography” (Naschmarkt scenes) and documentation of the Secession exhibitions.

The Karlsplatz will be transformed into Vienna’s biggest venue of international street art of highest quality. Bruegel (October 2, 2018 – January 13, 2019)

2019 sees the 450th anniversary of the death of Pieter Bruegel the Elder. To mark the occasion the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna is dedicating the world’s first ever major monograph exhibition to the artist widely regarded as the 16th  century’s  greatest  Netherlandish painter. The museum owns by far the largest collection of wooden panels and along with many paintings an loan from international  museums and private collections, the overview of Bruegel’s entire oeuvre is set to be nothing short of sensational.

“Bodyguard – The Musical” (September 27, 2018 to June 2019)

Vienna Design Week (September 28 – 0ctober 7, 2018)

Vienna Design Week turns the city into an annual design hotspot for ten days. This year’s guest country, Poland, will be represented  throughout  Vienna Design Week. An important location is the 7th district, where  the festival headquarters will be located. In addition to the information point, pop-up café and the green courtyard  garden,  there are numerous exhibitions, talks and workshops to visit. One of the focal points is virtual and augmented reality.

Christmas Markets in Vienna (November 16 – December 26. 2018)

Tourists and locals are equally attracted by the profusion of Vienna’s Advent markets and stunning Christmas lights. There is something for everyone. Traditionalists head for the large Advent markets in the city center, such as the Vienna Christmas Dream on Rathausplatz, the Christmas market Schloss Schönbrunn (at Schönbrunn Palace) and the Christmas Village in front of the Belvedere Palace have a distinctly imperial feel, as does the Christmas village on Maria-Theresien-Platz, located between the Natural History Museum and the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

Advent Concerts at St. Stephen´s Cathedral (30 November – 23 December 2018)

Viennese classical music sounds particularly solemn on brass instruments. In St. Stephen´s Cathedral, the soloists of the Wiener KammerOrchester perform Advent concerts with trumpet accompaniment. For New Year´s Eve Vienna offers a spectacular mix of events. Vienna top tips January

Erwin Wurm. Peace & Plenty. (November 21, 2018 – February 17, 2019)

The Albertina exhibits  the collected drawings of Austrian artist Erwin Wurm until February 17,  2019. “Peace & Plenty” is not only the name of the hotel in George Town/Great Exumas where many of the drawings were created but also an allusion to the extent of Erwin Wurm’s work. He has done hundreds of works on paper over the past three years that range from pencil drawings to watercolors and collages. The drawings are storehouses of ideas, reflections and commentaries on the world and much like a diary, they offer a rare insight  into the artist’s creative process. Ball Season

Each year Vienna hosts around 450 balls, from elegant high society galas to wild carnival parties. Vienna Ice World (January 18 – March 3, 2019)

A paradise for ice skaters of every age is the huge ice rink at the beautiful city Hall Square. A magical ice path winding through the romantic city Hall Park and curling lanes wait for sporty visitiors. Warming drinks are available at outdoor  booths and in the popular Almhütte. Rubens to Makart – Liechtenstein. The Princely Collections (February 16 – June 10, 2019)

In 2019 the creation of the imperial principality of Liechtenstein lies exactly 300 years in the past. This event is being celebrated by the Albertina with the exhibition “Rubens to Makart”, which shows the entire breadth of the Princely Collection for the first time. At the center of the exhibition will be works such as the Venus by Peter Paul Rubens, the life-sized bronze sculpture of Christ in Distress by Adriaen de Vries and the recently acquired Bronze Bust of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. 20 th International Accordion-Festival 2019 (February 23 – March 24, 2019)

The 20 th International Accordion Festival will present accordion music in all its many facets starting on February 23 and continuing for a whole month at Numerous well-known Viennese venues. Ice Skating and Curling in Vienna

If you are in the mood for ice skating under the open sky, you can make your turns at the Vienna Ice Skating Club (until March 3, 2019) or at Engelmann artificial ice rink (until March 10, 2019). Besides a spectacular ice rink, the Vienna Ice World (until March 3, 2019) offers eight lanes, on which sporty curling players can put their skills to the test. Until March, the “ParadEIS” around the Badeschiff (Pool Boat) on the Danube Canal promises a successful winter’s evening with four curling lanes (two on land, two on the pool boat itself). For an entire month, photography will be the focus of Vienna´s art scene. The new photo-festival shines a light on the local photography scene but also encourages international cooperation, for example with guest country France. Organized by the Kunst Haus Wien, many exhibitions as well es discussions and workshops will be part oft he festival, which has its festival center at Otto Wagner´s Postsparkasse on Ringstrasse. 100 years Red Vienna (April 30, 2019 – January 19, 2020)

The great impact of the Social Democrats who had the majority in Vienna from 1919 to 1934 is visible up to the present day. The influence of Red vienna is noticeable in numerous social recreational and cultural institutions. The public housing (Gemeindebau) created back then still characterizes the Viennese cityscape. 20-Minutes fun around Vienna

Just a few moments after the departure of aerodrome Stockerau our tour will lead us along the river Danube and the castle ruin of “Greifenstein”. We will fly over the city of Klosterneuburg with the baroque monastery and its beautiful vineyards. Then we’ll follow the river further to the city of Vienna. We will pass one of the biggest wetlands of middle Europe, which includes a third of the national park “Donau-Auen”.

     

As the journey continues, we will fly over Vienna’s famous fun-park, the “Prater”. From up here we will enjoy the great view over one of the city’s most prominent sights, the “Riesenrad” with its typical red wagons. Vienna’s “Prater” includes not only fun and roller coasters, but also a green oasis in the middle of the city. The “Praterpark” lies just three kilometers from the core of the city and it stands for pure nature, ideal for long walks and an awesome sight from the air.

Our above-ground sight seeing tour continues with a spectacular view over the “Augarten” with its well-known flak towers and the “Hermannskogel”- with 542 meters Vienna’s highest mountain.

Surely one of the biggest highlights of our tour will be the “Donauturm”. With its 252 meters it stands so close to us up in the air that you will think you could reach out and touch its tip while we fly past.

On our way back you can relish the magnificence of the Danube vale with its mixed woodlands and the vineyards at “Bisamberg”. We will fly past the imposing castle “Kreuzenstein” and “Schönborn” right before the approach for Stockerau aerodrome starts.
