15th KlezMORE Festival (November 10 – 25, 2018)

Jewish klezmer music has a long tradition and thrills audiences in November with sirring melodies and high-spirited singing. Christmas Markets in Vienna (November 16 – December 26. 2018)

Tourists and locals are equally attracted by the profusion of Vienna’s Advent markets and stunning Christmas lights. There is something for everyone. Traditionalists head for the large Advent markets in the city center, such as the Vienna Christmas Dream on Rathausplatz, the Christmas market Schloss Schönbrunn (at Schönbrunn Palace) and the Christmas Village in front of the Belvedere Palace have a distinctly imperial feel, as does the Christmas village on Maria-Theresien-Platz, located between the Natural History Museum and the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

Advent Concerts at St. Stephen´s Cathedral (30 November – 23 December 2018)

Viennese classical music sounds particularly solemn on brass instruments. In St. Stephen´s Cathedral, the soloists of the Wiener KammerOrchester perform Advent concerts with trumpet accompaniment. Vienna top tips January 2019

Erwin Wurm. Peace & Plenty. (November 21, 2018 – February 17, 2019)

The Albertina exhibits  the collected drawings of Austrian artist Erwin Wurm until February 17,  2019. “Peace & Plenty” is not only the name of the hotel in George Town/Great Exumas where many of the drawings were created but also an allusion to the extent of Erwin Wurm’s work. He has done hundreds of works on paper over the past three years that range from pencil drawings to watercolors and collages. The drawings are storehouses of ideas, reflections and commentaries on the world and much like a diary, they offer a rare insight  into the artist’s creative process. Ball Season

Vienna Ice World (January 18 – March 3, 2019)

A paradise for ice skaters of every age is the huge ice rink at the beautiful city Hall Square. A magical ice path winding through the romantic city Hall Park and curling lanes wait for sporty visitiors. Warming drinks are available at outdoor  booths and in the popular Almhütte. Rubens to Makart – Liechtenstein. The Princely Collections (February 16 – June 10, 2019)

In 2019 the creation of the imperial principality of Liechtenstein lies exactly 300 years in the past. This event is being celebrated by the Albertina with the exhibition “Rubens to Makart”, which shows the entire breadth of the Princely Collection for the first time. At the center of the exhibition will be works such as the Venus by Peter Paul Rubens, the life-sized bronze sculpture of Christ in Distress by Adriaen de Vries and the recently acquired Bronze Bust of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. 20 th International Accordion-Festival 2019 (February 23 – March 24, 2019)

The 20 th International Accordion Festival will present accordion music in all its many facets starting on February 23 and continuing for a whole month at Numerous well-known Viennese venues. Ice Skating and Curling in Vienna

If you are in the mood for ice skating under the open sky, you can make your turns at the Vienna Ice Skating Club (until March 3, 2019) or at Engelmann artificial ice rink (until March 10, 2019). Besides a spectacular ice rink, the Vienna Ice World (until March 3, 2019) offers eight lanes, on which sporty curling players can put their skills to the test. Until March, the “ParadEIS” around the Badeschiff (Pool Boat) on the Danube Canal promises a successful winter’s evening with four curling lanes (two on land, two on the pool boat itself). 100 years Red Vienna (April 30, 2019 – January 19, 2020)

The great impact of the Social Democrats who had the majority in Vienna from 1919 to 1934 is visible up to the present day. The influence of Red vienna is noticeable in numerous social recreational and cultural institutions. The public housing (Gemeindebau) created back then still characterizes the Viennese cityscape. Summer in the MQ (May – September 2019)

Vienna Major on Danube island

After the huge success of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup in 2017 and the first Vienna Major in 2018, the world elite of beach volleyball will return to the top location of Danube Island in 2019. For the second time, Vienna will host the Beach Major Series, which brings international beach volleyball stars onto the playing field. The Beach Volleyball Major in Vienna has meanwhile become the summer sporting event of the year!

During the Africa Days on Danube Island, the continent presents itself at close quarters.

Theater at Spittelberg -Summer stage (June 6th-September 3oth 2019)

Oper live outdoors (September 4th-September 29th 2019)

Opera means something to everyone in Vienna. You don’t need an admission ticket to the Vienna State Opera to experience a great evening full of music and song. “Oper live am Platz” is held in April, May, June and September as well as around New Year’s Eve – from December 27 to January 1.

The alternative to fighting over the hotly contested, low-price standing places in the Vienna State Opera every evening is to sit outside on Karajan-Platz in comfort and for free. 180 chairs are set up for each live broadcast. Information on the opera and the cast is provided on the video wall about half an hour before the performance begins.

Buskers Festival (September 6th-September 8th 2019)

Karlsplatz belongs to the street artists for a whole weekend from 6th to 8th September. Around 100 performances can be watched at the Buskers Festival. Numerous groups of artists from around the world present their wide-ranging repertoire at the free open-air spectacle. Musicians and drummers perform here, as do fire artists, acrobats, mime artists, jugglers and magicians.

A food area and a small market with colorful sales booths are a great place to go for a stroll and pass the time. During the day, interested visitors can participate in various workshops (juggling, graffiti, upcyling, etc.). There’s also a special program for children

MQ Vienna Fashion Week (September 9th-September 15th)

Bereits zum zehnten Mal schlägt heuer die MQ Vienna Fashion Week ihr Modezelt vor dem Wiener MuseumsQuartier (MQ) auf. Von 09. bis 15. September finden wieder täglich Modeschauen statt. Neben internationalen Designern stellen vor allem österreichische Labels wie Elisa Malec, Anna Etter, Gabriel Baradee und die Modeakademie Sitam ihre Arbeiten vor. Rund 70 Designer zeigen ihre Kollektionen am Catwalk – renommierte Modemacher ebenso wie Newcomer.
This year is the elevnth time that MQ Vienna Fashion Week will be erecting its fashion marquee in front of Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier (MQ). Fashions shows will be held here daily again from September 9th to 15th. Alongside international designers, mainly Austrian labels such as Elisa Malec, Anna Etter, Gabriel Baradee and the Fashion academy Sitam will present their works. Around 70 designers will show their collections on the catwalk – from renowned fashion makers to newcomers.

Wiener Wiesn – Festival (26.09.-13.10.2019) 

The ninth Wiener Wiesn-Festival, with the famous Giant Ferris Wheel as its backdrop, is set to take place in the autumn of 2019. The festival offers great entertainment in traditional Viennese style. Three festival tents offer a different program of music. Visitors young and old can look forward to 700 hours of live music. Local beer and tasty treats ranging from Wiener Schnitzel to Brettljause (cold cuts served on a wooden plate) provide the right accompaniment to the musical enjoyment.

The Wiener Wiesn-Fest kicks things off daily at 11.30

am with a traditional pre-lunch tipple. On individual days, Austria’s provinces will present their own customs, cuisine and music. Brass bands will perform alongside groups demonstrating the customs of each of the regions. In the afternoons, there are free concerts by the hit stars Andy Borg, Udo Wenders, Roberto Blanco, Stefan Mross, Nino de Angelo, Jazz Gitti, Marc Pircher and numerous folk music bands, including Die wilden Kaiser, Die Edlseer and Die Jungen Zillertaler. Admission to the festival tents is free daily until 6.00 pm.


Vienna Design Week (27.09.-06.10.2019)

Vienna Design Week turns the city into an annual design hotspot – this year for the thirteenth time. In collaboration with Vienna’s museums, product manufacturers and designers from all over the world, the festival offers a variety of opportunities to learn more about the topic of design, with over 100 events, exhibitions, installations, tours, workshops, and plenty of parties.

This year’s guest country, Finland, will be represented throughout Vienna Design Week and shows that Finnish design is more than Marimekko, Alvar Aalto and Iittala. Eleven designers from Finland present their works in the exhibition “Wild at Heart” curated by the designer Tero Kuitunen.


Long night of museums (05.10.2019)

The next “ORF long night of museums” takes place on Saturday, October 5, 2019 all over Austria. Museums and galleries open their doors from 6 pm to 1 am for night owls with an interest in culture. On top of the varied exhibitions, they offer many exciting events and special presentations. Visitors can choose their personal highlights from a wide variety and can visit all participating locations and events with only one ticket.
In addition to small museums full of curiosities and big famous cultural institutions, numerous new locations take part this year, waiting to be discovered by the visitors of the “Long Night”.


Film – Festival Viennale (24.10.-06.11.2019)

The Viennale is Austria’s most important international film event, as well as one of the oldest and best-known festivals in the German-speaking world. Every October, the Viennale takes place in beautiful cinemas in Vienna’s historic center, providing the festival with an international orientation and a distinctive urban flair.

In its program, the Viennale shows a carefully picked selection of new films from all over the globe as well as from Austria, some of them international premieres. The choice of about 300 films offers a cross-section of bold film-making which stands apart from the aesthetics of mainstream conventionality and is politically relevant.In the program you will find great titles premiered around the world, from Cannes to Buenos Aires, in a great variety of forms and lengths, as well as tones and genres.

20-Minutes fun around Vienna

Just a few moments after the departure of aerodrome Stockerau our tour will lead us along the river Danube and the castle ruin of “Greifenstein”. We will fly over the city of Klosterneuburg with the baroque monastery and its beautiful vineyards. Then we’ll follow the river further to the city of Vienna. We will pass one of the biggest wetlands of middle Europe, which includes a third of the national park “Donau-Auen”.

     

As the journey continues, we will fly over Vienna’s famous fun-park, the “Prater”. From up here we will enjoy the great view over one of the city’s most prominent sights, the “Riesenrad” with its typical red wagons. Vienna’s “Prater” includes not only fun and roller coasters, but also a green oasis in the middle of the city. The “Praterpark” lies just three kilometers from the core of the city and it stands for pure nature, ideal for long walks and an awesome sight from the air.

Our above-ground sight seeing tour continues with a spectacular view over the “Augarten” with its well-known flak towers and the “Hermannskogel”- with 542 meters Vienna’s highest mountain.

Surely one of the biggest highlights of our tour will be the “Donauturm”. With its 252 meters it stands so close to us up in the air that you will think you could reach out and touch its tip while we fly past.

On our way back you can relish the magnificence of the Danube vale with its mixed woodlands and the vineyards at “Bisamberg”. We will fly past the imposing castle “Kreuzenstein” and “Schönborn” right before the approach for Stockerau aerodrome starts.
